IT ALL BEGINS with completion of our medical
history questionnaire. If
you are a healthy woman between the ages of 21 and 33, do not use drugs
and have health insurance, you may qualify.
If you do, you will be added
to our list of active donors, and we will begin the work of matching you
with a family. The process may take time
- some women match immediately, while others may require several months
before they are selected.
Once you are selected by a family, we will meet
with you for a medical consultation, at which time we will explain the
medical process in detail
and answer all of your questions. Possible side effects and risks will
be addressed, and you will have a comprehensive evaluation and medical
testing.
The egg donation cycle is usually accomplished in three weeks.
You will begin by taking medication at home, and will have several visits
to our
clinic to monitor your progress. The egg retrieval is done in the office-based
surgery center. Collecting the eggs is a safe, minor procedure that
is performed with a mild anesthetic. Most women are able to return to
their
normal activities the next day.
Your eggs are given to the infertile
woman and are fertilized with her partner’s semen and implanted in
her uterus to begin a pregnancy.
